Special Agents: Special Agents prevent, investigate, and testify in relation to federal laws and regulations. When the term “special agent” is invoked, many individuals automatically think of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but in reality the term may be used to describe a variety of federal agents including Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). Traditionally, the competition for these positions is without a doubt some of the most competitive among any in law enforcement; to arrive at this level often requires an exemplary record of accomplishment and service.
